State of Project Segfault: June 2024
Hello this (very late) blogpost ! This month we have a lot of important news to inform you of, so please stick around:
IN Node 2/3-day planned downtime from 13th July onward
Since Arya, who hosts the IN Node, is shifting homes, there will be a downtime (2-3 days depending on how annoying the ISP is), while the node is moved.
Unfortunately, there is nothing we can really do about it, but we will try to minimize the disturbance caused by the downtime by temporarily moving whatever services we can to other nodes.
Our Invidious and Piped instances are back!
By (ab)using one of our clean IP addresses, we were able to bypass the new IP blocks enforced by YouTube which login-walled most IPs Invidious instances are hosted on.
This means that you can continue to use our Invidious and Piped instances without any issues!
Wiki has been migrated to WikiJS
After suffering so many issues with MediaWiki, we have finally bit the bullet and moved over to WikiJS, which is a lot more modern and intuitive. Additionally, we also have our wiki partially translated to Fr*nch (disgusting, I know :)) now, and hopefully more languages to come!
Reminder for donations, as usual
I know this is the same boilerplate stuff we add in every single blogpost, but this time, it is actually important.
Our IN Node SSD is in a degraded state, and we direly need a new SSD to allow the IN Node to continue running smoothly, and minimize risk of eventual disk failure and the resultant loss of data.
In this case, we pretty much need donations from our Indian users, since the Foreign Donation laws in India are extremely strict and we don't want to get a letter for Money Laundering or something.
Additionally, we already have a negative balance of 600 rupees (around 7 EUR) from previous purchases, which we couldn't reimburse due to the aforementioned laws, so any and all UPI donations from Indians are welcome
Lastly, if you are a donator, we now have a page on our new Wiki, where you can get listed as a donator if you so please. We also give access to our private nitter instance for all donators, so please contact us if you want any of these perks!
Docker-ization of XMPP
Our XMPP instance has now been dockerized, which should not affect you, but rest assured, this will make it easier for us to maintain
Pubnix cert renewal has now been automated
Due to our strict stance on isolation of Pubnix, we had long been unable to automatically renew pubnix certs, but with some new hacky cronjobs, we have been able to bypass this, which means the certs for the Pubnix shouldn't get expired randomly anymore!
PGP Renewed
Our PGP Key has been renewed again for the next few months. We use an expiring key that has to be manually renewed for extra security.
