State of Project Segfault: October + November 2024
New month, New blogpost! Today we have a lot to show you! During October nothing really noteworthy happened, but during November a lot of things have been changed or added which we feel should come to your notice!
New month, New blogpost! Today we have a lot to show you!
Since we didn't post anything in the last two months because there was nothing to tell, we decided to once again, merge both months.
During October nothing really noteworthy happened, but during November a lot of things have been changed or added which we feel should come to your notice!
All YouTube front-ends shut down till further notice
Due to the YouTube blocks severely hampering the possibility of smooth functioning of our YouTube frontends (Invidious, Piped, HyperPipe), we have decided to shut them down temporarily. If you need any data from those services, please contact us so we can do the necessary procedures to export your data.
Nitter is now available to all Pubnix users
After experimenting a bit with authentik for an unrelated project, Arya has made Nitter accessible to all users who have access to the Pubnix Authentik service.
PS: for those asking what about donators who paid to get access, we never had any to begin with, so there is no real change other than the fact that it wont just be for the admins anymore
New VPS
At a black friday sale, we got a cheap 10$/year VPS from LetBox. We will be using this to host our status page and internal services like Headscale and Ansible Semaphore.
PS^2: This server is gonna be running slackware :D
IN Node RAM upgrade
After another cycle of random shut downs due to Out of Memory errors, we have upgraded IN Node's RAM capacity from 24 GB (8+16) to 32GB (16+16). This will also allow us to expand our services on IN Node further in the future.
Our team would like to thank K Gopal Krishna, whose timely donation helped us get the RAM in the first place
PS^3: If you are thinking why couldn't we have simply used the money we have on Liberapay, it is not possible to transfer money to an Indian account without a million beauracratic hurdles, which we simply don't want to touch.
SearXNG is now GeoDNS'd
It is a simple but long-overdue change, but now the main domains for SearXNG (s.psf.lt / search.projectsegfau.lt) now use our GeoDNS system, meaning visitors will use the SearXNG server of ours that is closest to them. This change is pretty small, but it should have a positive impact on those users further away from the EU who were using our primary SearXNG instance.
We got mirrors now!
This is only semi-official, but IN Node has been one of the hosts for the mirrors of albony.in for a good while now. With the service finally somewhat stable, we are happy to announce it as a part of our suite.
You can access it at https://mirror.bom.albony.in (with RSYNC access available on the same domain).
Do note however, that though the service is hosted on our servers, the maintenance and upkeep is taken care of by Shrirang Kahale, not us, though this should not have any tangible impact on your usage of the mirror.
Manage your time, for free!
Since Midou felt like wanting to manage his time better recently, we decided to add TimeTagger, accessible to all pubnix users!
You can access it at tt.psf.lt / timetagger.projectsegfau.lt
OwnCloud (Collabora included) is now available
Since we have more storage, Arya decided to provide OwnCloud (with Collabora for online document editing). Every pubnix user gets 5gb, but donators get more storage as usual.
You can access it at owncloud.projectsegfau.lt
Ente Photos is also available
You can make an account to get free 5gb for your pictures. Donators get more storage (just like OwnCloud).
You can access it at ente.projectsegfau.lt / pic.psf.lt
Authentik redesign
Since we discovered that we can CSS style Authentik and change the logo, our Authentik has now gotten a new look for the login page to make it look less default-looking and fit in better with our branding colors!
